Cells are constantly building proteins to perform all kinds of different tasks inside a cell. But that also means that it can get quite crowded inside the cell, so it needs to get rid of proteins that are no longer needed. In a previous video, we've shown you how ubiquitin tags are attached to these unwanted proteins, flagging them for destruction.

In this video, we're going into a bit more detail about how that destruction actually works, by looking at the cell's big protein shredder: the proteasome.
