Hydrogen as an Advanced Fuel: Next Generation of Zero Emission Fuel
Presented by: Tammie Bostick, Utah Clean Cities
Hydrogen (H2) is the simplest and most abundant element in the universe, existing in water, hydrocarbons (such as methane), and organic matter. Similar to other alternative fuel sources, hydrogen can be produced domestically and is a promising fuel source that has the potential for near-zero greenhouse gas emissions. It holds promise for growth in both the stationary and transportation energy sectors with research and commercial efforts underway to expand the limited hydrogen fueling infrastructure and increase the production of clean energy throughout the US. In Utah, we are leading the way in developing and expanding hydrogen energy production which will allow our state, and collective region, to offer a full portfolio of advanced, renewable fuels thus ensuring commercial fleets have access to clean fuels across the west, in our state, and ideally, throughout our nation's major corridors. As the trifecta of clean energy, methane capture - electric - hydrogen, Utah Clean Cities continues to educate our communities, fleet managers, and our policy makers about the potential for renewable, clean energy options for Utah.
