IMPORTANT NOTE: I did not realize that Rousseau's "Chasteness is nothing" comments were the opinions of the people who opposed him, and not his own ideas. However, the fact that those kinds of ideas were being spread in opposition to Rousseau's misogynistic ideas still stands to represent an evolution in societal marriage and gender ideas.
